Resumo: Adult and Youth Education is a modality of Basic Education in Brazil whose audience is very heterogeneous. Because of this diversity, the teaching of the English Language is quite challenging. This text is the result of an interview with a teacher of English who works with this modality and that graduated from the College of Teacher Training, linked to the Rio de Janeiro State University (Faculdade de Formação de Professores da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, FFP-UERJ, in Brazil). It is important to point out that the analysis of this interview is based on the methodological study of themes, proposed by Fontoura (2011). The themes raised from the interview were: a) choice for the profession; b) teacher professional development; c) challenges of teaching English for classes of adult and youth education. So, listening attentively to this teacher brought another way of thinking school and especially the English classroom of adult and youth Education.
