Cardiovascular patient safety: an analysis of the guiding documents of nursing education

Resumo: The aim of the study was to analyze the contents and approaches on cardiovascular patient safety in the education of nurses. It is a documentary study that used the method of Pimentel (2001), to analyze the guiding documents of education - pedagogical project, curricular matrix, menus and plans of disciplines - of a Nursing course at a public university in the interior of the Brazilian Northeast. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Ceará under protocol No. 923,537. The results of the analysis revealed a fragmented curriculum, with content and specific and indirect approaches on teaching patient safety in the cardiovascular context. The concept of patient safety was not identified in the analyzed documents, reinforcing the indirect approach to the theme. It is concluded that there is a need for greater curricular integration and reformulation of documents, in order to promote a clear and transversal approach to patient safety in nursing education.

Es un estudio documental que utilizó el método de Pimentel (2001), para analizar los documentos de orientación de la educación (proyecto pedagógico, matriz curricular, menús y planes de disciplinas) de un curso de enfermería en una universidad pública del interior del Noreste de Brasil. El estudio fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación de la Universidad Estatal de Ceará bajo el protocolo No. 923,537. Los resultados del análisis revelaron un plan de estudios fragmentado, con contenido y enfoques específicos e indirectos sobre la enseñanza de la seguridad del paciente en el contexto cardiovascular. El concepto de seguridad del paciente no se identificó en los documentos analizados, lo que refuerza el enfoque indirecto del tema. Se concluye que existe la necesidad de una mayor integración curricular y reformulación de documentos, con el fin de promover un enfoque claro y transversal a la seguridad del paciente en la educación de enfermería.O objetivo do estudo foi analisar os conteúdos e abordagens sobre segurança do paciente cardiovascular na formação do enfermeiro. Trata-se de um estudo documental que utilizou o método de Pimentel (2001), para analisar os documentos orientadores da formação - projeto pedagógico, matriz curricular, ementas e planos de disciplinas - de um curso de Enfermagem numa universidade pública do interior do Nordeste brasileiro. O estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade Estadual do Ceará no protocolo nº 923.537. Os resultados da análise revelaram um currículo fragmentado, com conteúdo e abordagens pontuais e indiretas sobre o ensino de segurança do paciente no contexto cardiovascular. O conceito de segurança do paciente não foi identificado nos documentos analisados, reforçando a abordagem indireta à temática.
