Family Caregiver for the elderly with Alzheimer’s disease: an integrative review

Resumo: The research aimed to identify in the scientific literature the factors associated with the burden of the family caregiver of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease and to investigate the relationship between the conditions and circumstances in which care is provided and its impact on the caregiver's life. The present work is a qualitative study of Bibliographic Review of the type Integrative Review. The research was carried out by analyzing the publications selected in the online databases, MEDLINE, LILACS and BDENF indexed in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) using a form structured in two axes. The search for the material occurred through the PICo strategy. Twenty-four studies were reviewed, which were grouped by semantic similarity, generating two categories, 1. Challenges experienced by family caregivers of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease and factors associated with care overload, and 2. Biopsychosocial repercussions of the care given to elderly people with Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's in the family caregiver's life. The study made it possible to identify several factors associated with overload in family caregivers of elderly people with AD, among them the lack of social and professional support, lack of knowledge, increased amount and severity of neuropsychiatric symptoms of Alzheimer’s in the elderly and workload, when factors are not properly controlled and mediated, caregivers suffer negative impacts on their physical, psychosocioemotional and financial health. It is necessary to create public policies in order to control the factors that generate burden and the negative repercussions of care in the life of the family caregiver of elderly people with Alzheimer's.

El presente trabajo es un estudio cualitativo de Revisión Bibliográfica del tipo Revisión Integrativa. La investigación se llevó a cabo mediante el análisis de las publicaciones seleccionadas en las bases de datos en línea MEDLINE, LILACS y BDENF indexadas en la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS) mediante un formulario estructurado en dos ejes. La búsqueda del material se dio a través de la estrategia PICo. Se revisaron veinticuatro estudios, que fueron agrupados por similitud semántica, generando dos categorías, 1. Desafíos vividos por los cuidadores familiares de ancianos con enfermedad de Alzheimer y factores asociados a la sobrecarga asistencial, y 2. Repercusiones biopsicosociales de la atención brindada a las personas mayores con Alzheimer. Alzheimer en la vida del cuidador familiar. El estudio permitió identificar varios factores asociados a la sobrecarga en los cuidadores familiares de ancianos con EA, entre ellos la falta de apoyo social y profesional, el desconocimiento, el aumento de la cantidad y gravedad de los síntomas neuropsiquiátricos del alzheimer en el anciano y la carga de trabajo, cuando tal Los factores no están adecuadamente controlados y mediados, los cuidadores sufren impactos negativos en su salud física, psicosocioemocional y financiera. Es necesario crear políticas públicas para controlar los factores que generan la sobrecarga y las repercusiones negativas del cuidado en la vida del cuidador familiar de las personas mayores con Alzheimer.A pesquisa objetivou identificar na literatura científica os fatores associados à sobrecarga do cuidador familiar de idosos com mal de Alzheimer e averiguar a relação entre as condições e as circunstâncias nas quais o cuidado é prestado e sua repercussão na vida do cuidador. O presente trabalho trata-se de um estudo qualitativo de Revisão Bibliográfica do tipo Revisão Integrativa. A pesquisa foi realizada por meio de análise das publicações selecionadas nas bases de dados online, MEDLINE, LILACS e BDENF indexadas na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) através de um formulário estruturado em dois eixos. A busca do material ocorreu por meio da estratégia PICo. Foram revisados 24 estudos, que foram agrupados por similaridade semântica, gerando duas categorias, 1. Desafios vivenciados pelo cuidador familiar de idosos com doença de Alzheimer e fatores associados à sobrecarga do cuidado, e 2. Repercussões biopsicossociais do cuidado dispensado ao idoso com doença de Alzheimer na vida do cuidador familiar. O estudo possibilitou identificar vários fatores associados à sobrecarga em cuidadores familiares de idosos com DA, dentre eles a falta de apoio social e profissional, falta de conhecimento, aumento da quantidade e gravidade dos sintomas neuropsiquiátricos do alzheimer no idoso e carga de trabalho, quando tais fatores não são controlados e mediados a contento, os cuidadores sofrem impactos negativos em sua saúde física, psicossocioemocional e financeira.
