Resumo: First aid is defined by the provision of immediate support for the purpose of maintaining the victim's vital signs until the arrival of specialized assistance. In addition to health professionals, any individual with prior knowledge of the subject can provide the help. This research aimed to know the importance of the knowledge of elementary school teachers about first aid. This is a descriptive research, exploratory and with a qualitative approach. The study was 15 teachers from three public elementary schools located in the interior of Ceará, who were teaching in public elementary schools. Data were collected from November 2019 to March 2020, from the application of a semi-structured questionnaire.  The results showed that there is a lack of information about educators' understanding of first aid theory and practices, as well as the use of popular practices that can aggravate the patient's condition. Therefore, actions and strategies to promote continuing training for education professionals on the provision of relief should be implemented. To this way, ensure a better guideline for the prevention of accidents, injuries and health care.

Además de los profesionales de la salud, cualquier persona con conocimiento previo de la materia puede proporcionar la ayuda. Esta investigación tenía como objetivo conocer la importancia del conocimiento de los maestros de primaria sobre los primeros auxilios. Se trata de una investigación descriptiva, exploratoria y con un enfoque cualitativo. El estudio fue de 15 profesores de tres escuelas primarias públicas ubicadas en el interior de Ceará, que enseñaban en escuelas primarias públicas. Los datos se recopilaron de noviembre de 2019 a marzo de 2020, a partir de la aplicación de un cuestionario semiestructurado.  Los resultados mostraron que hay una falta de información sobre la comprensión de los educadores de la teoría y las prácticas de primeros auxilios, así como el uso de prácticas populares que pueden agravar la condición del paciente. Por lo tanto, deben aplicarse acciones y estrategias para promover la formación continua de los profesionales de la educación sobre la prestación de socorro. De esta manera, garantizar una mejor pauta para la prevención de accidentes, lesiones y atención médica.Primeiros socorros é definido pela prestação do suporte imediato com a finalidade de manutenção dos sinais vitais da vítima até a chegada da assistência especializada. Além dos profissionais de saúde, qualquer indivíduo com o conhecimento prévio do assunto pode realizar a prestação do socorro. Esta pesquisa objetivou conhecer a importância do conhecimento dos professores do ensino fundamental sobre primeiros socorros. Se trata de uma pesquisa descritiva, de caráter exploratório e com abordagem qualitativa. Participaram da pesquisa 15 professores de três escolas públicas de ensino fundamental localizada no interior do Ceará, que estivessem lecionando em escolas públicas de ensino fundamental. A coleta de dados foi realizada nos meses de novembro de 2019 a março de 2020, a partir da aplicação de um questionário semiestruturado.  Os resultados mostraram que se faz presente uma carência acerca do entendimento dos educadores sobre a teoria e práticas de primeiros socorros, assim como o uso de práticas populares que podem agravar o quadro do paciente. Portanto, devem ser implementadas ações e estratégias de promoção de capacitações continuadas para os profissionais da educação sobre a prestação de socorro.
