Resumo: Introduction: The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological condition that impairs focus or attention, it is a pathology frequently diagnosed in childhood, however, it is not identified until adolescence. Generally, there is a genetic component in the pathophysiology of ADHD, however, there are other causes that are not yet well established. Objective: To analyze clinical aspects and the treatment indicated for young people diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Methodology: This is a narrative review of the literature, with articles selected from the databases: National Library of Medicine (PubMed MEDLINE), EbscoHost, Google Scholar, Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Virtual Health Library (BVS) Results: According to the review conducted, it was found that ADHD is composed of two groups of symptoms: inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. In addition, inattention and impulsivity problems are characteristics that parents often ignore, contributing to a late diagnosis. Furthermore, adolescents and adults have less hyperactivity than children; however, there is a significant deficit in executive functions, which may compromise their intellectual development. Conclusion: We can state that ADHD symptoms vary according to gender, age, and type of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Therefore, a prior diagnosis is of utmost importance for the young ADHD sufferer to have a good quality of life, as provided by the World Health Organization.

Research, Society and Development2023-01-18info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3994110.33448/rsd-v12i2.39941Research, Society and Development; Vol. 12 No. 2; e0112239941Research, Society and Development; Vol. 12 Núm. 2; e0112239941Research, Society and Development; v. 12 n. 2; e01122399412525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/39941/32703Copyright (c) 2023 Júlia de Oliveira Alves; Ana Carolina Nakao e Borges; Marcela Cardoso e Castro; Paula Marynella Alves Pereira Limahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAlves, Júlia de Oliveira Borges, Ana Carolina Nakao e Castro, Marcela Cardoso e Lima, Paula Marynella Alves Pereira 2023-02-14T20:07:52Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/39941Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2023-02-14T20:07:52Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
