Politics and Christianity in Brazil: quadriennium 2018 - 2021

Based on the understanding that the political-religion dichotomy is a classic theme in the area of Social Sciences (MATA, 2008), this investigation placed the object historically and concentrated efforts on the particularities presented in the Brazilian conjuncture. In order to analyze the influence of Christianity in the current Brazilian political scenario, the research resorted to the República editorial, of the newspaper Gazeta do Povo, to verify how the publications highlighted the theme in the period between the years 2018 and 2021. , located the media vehicle on the national scene and presented the relevance of the theme in its scope. Thus, the research required expertise in quantitative and qualitative approaches and was developed from theoretical-methodological assumptions of content analysis (BARDIN, 2011). The techniques used were bibliographic research (STUMPF, 2005), individual interviews (BAUER; GASKELL, 2002) and documental research (OLIVEIRA, 2007). The results showed that Christianity exerts influence on the Brazilian political scenario today and that the association between politics and religion is perceived as legitimate within the scope of the newspaper Gazeta do Povo, being recurrent in news related to the Executive Power.
