Literature in school: between the reality and the possibility

Resumo: | The practices of literary reading usually don’t respect the specificities of this kind of text, we just have to observe the treatment that we give to literature, for example, in almost all of the extbooks. Also, a research done with third grade students shows that these students predominantly know mass literature. Because of this situation, as part of studies of the project “Training of the reader: the process of mediation teacher”, Machado de Assis is shown as an author that can be part of the repertoire of readings for students in Elementary School. If Machado is an exponent of Brazilian Literature, he should be present in the planning of teachers in Brazilian schools. In this text, it is chosen some short narratives of this author to introduce the practices of literary education. |

Além disso, pesquisa realizada com estudantes de 3ª série sinaliza que essas crianças conhecem, predominantemente, literatura de massa. Frente a essa situação, como parte de estudos do projeto “Formação do leitor: o processo de mediação docente”, apresenta-se Machado de Assis como um autor que pode fazer parte do repertório de estudantes do Ensino Fundamental. Se Machado é um expoente da Literatura Brasileira, deveria estar presente nos planejamentos dos docentes das escolas brasileiras.
