The discourse of the colonizer basically opposes two subjects: one is the subject possessing knowledge, "superior" to others and in the right to explore the lands and or peoples with whom he establishes contact and the other is the "inferior", who does not possess the knowledge, not practicing the same religion, not living in a organized society according to the molds of the colonizer, are literally others, without fait, without law and without king. The presente dissertation analyzes the discourse of the colonizer present in the letter written by Pero Vaz de Caminha and sent to King D. Manuel in 1500 B.C. It is inserted in the Line of Research Language, Literature and Society: discourse in communication, religious discourse, pedagogic discourse, in the Graduate Program in Letter of Mackenzie Presbiterian University. It uses the theoretical-methodological assumptions of French Line Discourse Analyses from conceptions presented by ALTHUSSER (1970), FIORIN (1998, 2014, 2015, 2016), FOUCAULT (2008), MAINGUENEAU (2013), ORLANDI (2008, 2011, 2012, 2015) e PÊCHEAUX (2014). It seeks to observer the discourse of the colonizer in the sixteenth century, answering the question as to why Caminha appears as an writer focused on the people and not so specifically on earth, reflecting to answer this question about the subject's role in the relationship between the enunciator and the enunciate as well as the search for the analysis to reveal the ideological and discursive formations that are present in the letter.
