The findings in this paper question the quality of the high schools’ ranking based on ENEM. Small schools’ test scores tend to: (i) be more extreme; (ii) have larger short runfluctuations; and (iii) have a greater weight of “non-persistent factors” in the decompositionof their scores’ variance. Moreover, the ranking has an important temporarycomponent that tends to disappear in the next edition. Finally, the probability that oneschool maintains, in the future, a given position in the ranking is small. In sum, thequality of the information provided by the ranking is low. |
