Reflections on nursing teaching and students' first contact with the profession

Resumo: Nursing teaching has been characterized by constant discussions on pedagogical proposals and implementation of curricular changes. The aim of this study was to reflect on nursing students' experience related to their first contacts with the profession, considering traditional perspectives and current tendencies that imprint values and attitudes in learning and practice. Nowadays, the complexity of human beings and the environment they live in is considered within a biopsychosocial, economic and cultural context, constituting resources that allow for the formation of competent professionals in order to deal with the challenges of the XXIst century. Thus, nursing schools have to follow a teaching philosophy to form trained people to attend to local and regional demands and are socially committed to change. What is aimed for is participative learning, in which teacher and student, articulated in the knowledge improvement process, do not forget about humanitarian views.

El objetivo del presiente estudio fue reflejar sobre la experiencia del estudiante de enfermería relacionado con los primeros contactos con la profesión, en que están presientes la perspectiva tradicional y las tendencias actuales que imprimen valores y actitudes a la enseñanza y la práctica. Actualmente, dentro del contexto biopsicosocial, económico y cultural, se ha considerado la complejidad del hombre y el medio en que vive, posibilitando recursos que posibiliten la formación de profesionales competentes para enfrentar los retos del siglo XXI. Las escuelas de enfermería deben, entonces, seguir una filosofía de enseñanza con vistas a formar personas capacitadas para atender a las demandas locales e regionales, con compromiso social de cambio. Lo que es almenado es un aprendizaje participativo, en el cual profesor y alumno, articulados en el proceso de perfeccionamiento del saber, no percan de vista las visiones humanitarias.O ensino da enfermagem vem sendo caracterizado pela constante discussão de propostas pedagógicas e implementação de mudanças curriculares. O objetivo do presente estudo foi refletir sobre a experiência do estudante de enfermagem relacionada aos primeiros contatos com a profissão, considerando a perspectiva tradicional e as tendências atuais que imprimem valores e atitudes ao ensino e à prática. Atualmente, dentro do contexto biopsicosocial e econômico-cultural, tem-se considerado a complexidade do homem e o meio em que vive, viabilizando recursos para a formação de profissionais competentes para lidar com os desafios do século XXI. As escolas de enfermagem devem, então, seguir uma filosofia de ensino a fim de formar pessoas capacitadas para atender às demandas locais e regionais, com compromisso social de mudanças. O que é almejado é um aprendizado participativo, no qual professor e aluno, articulados no processo de aprimoramento do saber, não percam de vista as visões humanitárias.Universidade de São Paulo.
