In Brazil, the most used sealing systems in buildings are (those) composed of ceramic blocks and mortar containing mortar as a coating. In Southern Brazil, the most widely used type of mortar is the intermediate mortar. The mortar components already pre-mixed with lime, cement and water need be mixed according to the manufacture orientation. In the region Garopaba – SC, a significant amount of manifestation of pathological problems which are associated, in many cases, with poor monitoring of the indicated orientation and, especially, with improper storage what increasing the probability of material contact with moisture from the outside environment, causing the carbonation of the lime contained in the mortar. In order to confirm these hypotheses, in this research, we created a checklist containing questions referent the use, storage and knowledge regarding intermediate mortar. This questionnaire was applied to civil engineering professionals, so we were able to raise parameters where it was possible to identify the causes related to the appearance (emergence) of plaster anomalies. Thus, we obtained sufficient results to identify the failures responsible for the emergence of related pathologies, mainly due to the mishandling and storage of the materials that make up the intermediate mortar.
