Resumo: | The aim of this research was to investigate potential destination for Urban Solid Residues (USR) generated in Tubarão town - SC. To develop this work, a review was performed on the management legal situation of USR in Brazil. Environmentally appropriated destination ways for USR were still highlighted, those successfully in Brazil and around the world. Next, the current situation of the USR management was surveyed. Thereunto, visits were carried out to the Town Hall, to the enterprise responsible by the transportation of USR in town, and to the enterprise responsible by the USR screening in town that posteriorly are deposited in a landfill managed by Serrana Engenharia. Only in Tubarão, 25.137 millions of tons of USR are generated yearly, and just 2.7% are collected by selective collect. The selective collection attends only 83% of neighborhoods; however, in a very low intensity when compared to the common garbage collection. Some places in Brazil are adhering to innovative models for residue management, like the example of Hospital Sírio-libanês that installed a vacuum garbage system. The hospital mentioned received the prize Green Building Gold, granted to sustainable buildings. However, there is much to be done, because in a near future the abundance of raw material will not be the same currently. Then, a new approach to the USR will be necessary. Among them, there are materials which can be recycled several times, and nowadays they are deposited in landfills. Different type of plastic may be used in diverse ways. In building, for example, there are techniques validated to produce PET roof tiles, module formworks for concrete in recycled polypropylene, further a house built with different types of plastic. The innovative idea of the house won the prize The Venture, addressed to social aspect startups. So, it is possible infer this research reached the aims proposed, because the USR management situation in Brazil was identified. The law number 6.938/81highlights the need to search ways for materials used by the population present a longer lifecycle, covering the reuse and recycling in their stages. Nevertheless, little encouragement is offered by the public management in the country. So, it is also possible conclude there is need for population awareness programs, once the residues generated by it are, in fact, materials with great potential to be transformed in new products. However, changing a culture is a hard work, which can take until three generations to be done. |

Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho foi realizada uma revisão quanto à situação legal da gestão dos RSU no Brasil. Foram destacadas, ainda, as formas de destinação ambientalmente adequadas dos RSU, que obtiveram sucesso no Brasil e no mundo. Em seguida, levantada a situação atual da gestão dos RSU em Tubarão. Para isso, foram realizadas visitas à prefeitura municipal de Tubarão, à empresa responsável pelo transporte dos RSU da cidade, e à empresa responsável pela triagem dos RSU que, posteriormente, são depositados no aterro sanitário gerenciado pela Serrana Engenharia. Somente na cidade de Tubarão são gerados, anualmente, 25,137 milhões de toneladas de RSU, sendo apenas 2,7% recolhidos por coleta seletiva. Esta passa em apenas 83% dos bairros; porém, com uma intensidade menor que a coleta comum. Alguns locais do Brasil estão aderindo aos modelos inovadores para gestão dos resíduos gerados; o hospital Sírio-libanês é um exemplo, com a instalação do sistema de lixo a vácuo. O referido hospital recebeu o prêmio Green Building Gold, que é concedido às edificações sustentáveis. Entretanto, ainda há muito a ser feito, pois, em um futuro próximo não haverá mais a abundância de matéria prima que há nos dias atuais. Com isso, será necessária uma nova abordagem quanto à visão que se tem com RSU. Entre eles, há materiais que podem ser reciclados várias vezes, e hoje em dia são depositados em aterros sanitários. Os diferentes tipos de plásticos podem ser utilizados de diversas formas. Na construção civil, por exemplo, já existem técnicas de válidas para produção de telhas de PET reciclado, formas modulares para concreto de polipropileno reciclado, além uma casa construída com diversos plásticos. A ideia inovadora da casa ganhou o prêmio The Venture, destinado às empresas startups de cunho social. Desta forma, pode-se inferir que esta pesquisa alcançou os objetivos propostos, pois foi identificada a situação da gestão dos resíduos sólidos urbanos no Brasil. A Lei nº 6.938/81 destaca a necessidade de buscar formas de os materiais, utilizados pela população, apresentarem um ciclo de vida mais amplo, abrangendo, em suas etapas, a reciclagem e a reutilização. Porém, pouco incentivo é oferecido pela gestão pública do país para isso. Com isso, pode-se concluir que há necessidade de programas de conscientização da população, uma vez que os resíduos por ela gerados, na verdade, são materiais com potencial expressivo de serem outros produtos.
