Police activity in Brazil and in the world is one of the most susceptible to work stress. The daily contact with violence and all its consequences causes these professionals to be exposed to the most different traumas, be they physical or emotional. This proximity, involvement and commitment to traumatic events, added to other stressors such as dissatisfaction with working conditions, extra workdays and personal problems can produce immediate and lasting psychological disorders bringing numerous consequences for the social environment and especially for the professional MP. The research begins identifying the mental disorders that permeate the police universe. Once these disorders are identified it’s important to verify if the association of two or more of these evils has a greater or lesser influence on the mental state of the individual. This stage is one of the most concerning situation of stress in the acute phase, the attack against its on life. Suicide appears as a sad, but still little studied and properly treated reality in the police. The next step is to identify which institutional and governmental actions are being implemented to address this situation, as well as characterize them and verify their efficiency and effectiveness. Finally, the analysis of all the information collected is performed seeking to identify possible ways for the psychological protection of these professionals and consequent improvement of their working conditions, providing an enhancement in the quality of public safety services.
