Resumo: This thesis discusses the existence of a non-phonocentric dimension of voice in cinema named neotenic voice from the animated film Boy and the World (2014) by Alê Abreu. This voice emerges when meaning (logos) and materiality (phoné) are transcended. It is in a gap between language and discourse: it’s the place of language’s infancy. Before defining this dimension of voice, a brief history of voice in cinema based on technologies and their influence on the actors performance is necessary. Voice and language studies by authors such as Giorgio Agamben, Jean-Luc Nancy, Mladen Dolar, Jacques Lacan, Steven Connor and Jonathan Rée are also discussed. The voice treatment in the film and its relations with technique, narrative and the film’s social and political context, leads to the rejection of the three prejudices pointed out by Jacques Derrida: phonocentrism, logocentrism and ethnocentrism.

Essa voz emerge quando se transcende o sentido (logos) e a materialidade (phoné). Ela está num hiato entre a língua e o discurso: o lugar da infância da linguagem. Antes de definir essa dimensão da voz se faz necessário um breve histórico da voz no cinema a partir das tecnologias e sua influência na performance dos atores. São discutidos também estudos da voz e da linguagem realizados por autores como Giorgio Agamben, Jean-Luc Nancy, Mladen Dolar, Jacques Lacan, Steven Connor e Jonathan Rée.
