Resumo: This main goal of this research is to understand the aspects of directional control and performance expected in light twin-engines, when in single-engine operation, that is, after the failure of one of the engines, and also to make an analysis of the fatal occurrences index in light twin-engines. The research was characterized as exploratory descriptive, using bibliographic and documentary procedures by means of books, manuals, websites, articles, regulations, and data from CENIPA and ANAC. A qualitative and quantitative approach was used. As for the analysis of the data, the accident rates in relation to the data collected were extracted out of the graphs and analyzed according to the theoretical foundation. It is known that this model of aircraft has distinct operating characteristics, when compared to single engines. This approach is necessary to emphasize to the pilot about the approval requirements of this aircraft and to understand the factors that affect the loss of directional control and the performance in flight. Furthermore, there is the fact that it was not found a specific manual at ANAC for the standardization of the course of light piston twin-engines in Brazil. At the end of this work, the problems faced due to power asymmetry were observed, in addition to the importance of VMCA for directional control and VYse to obtain the best performance of the aircraft when in single-engine operation. It was concluded that there is a lack of knowledge and non-compliance with the homologation requirements for light twin-engines. This is a contributing factor to the occurrence of aeronautical incidents and accidents, with a high lethality rate, in situations that present loss of control in flight after an asymmetric situation in which the pilot tried to extract a performance for which this type of aircraft is not able to comply.
