Pregnancy is a physiological event, with natural organic changes, but that requires health professionals the need for a differentiated approach to knowledge. The oral health team should work jointly with other professionals of the healthcare team to qualify prenatal care of pregnant women in the territory covered (BRAZIL,2006). Pregnancy does not cause disease or inflammation in the gums, but due to hormonal changes the bloodstream during this period can occur intensifying existing problems. Pregnant women suffering from periodontal disease increases by consequently, in the teeth of mineralization process will be harmed (FRANCIS, 2010). The aim of this study was to review the literature on dental care in pregnancy in order to contribute information and sensitize the dental community regarding dental care during pregnancy. seven times the risk of having premature babies and low birth weight and The seach was conducted in the following databases: GOOGLE, SCIELO, BIREME, BVMS and Scientific journals. We used the following keywords: Pregnant dentistry, oral health pregnancy, pregnant promoting, pregnancy and baby health. From this study and based on current practice, it is observed that there is resistance on the part of pregnant women and oral health team in performing preventive interventions during pregnancy for fear of harming the baby ( SCAVUZZI,1998). Apart from insecurity, lack of knowledge of the notes to meet this professional limited audience. The service of those professionals who deals daily in public service, which are barriers to adopting a position of health promoter (VOLPATO, 2005). The team prenatal assisting the pregnant woman, including the dentist is committed to providing care that provide prevention, protection, healing, recovery and health promotion. The challenges are large, but the deal with life brings a responsibility to crave all the expected results for a successful full service and safe, that´s the whole process that involves prenatal care.
