Resumo: The main objective of this term paper is to introduce to the reader the complexity associated to the mining activities that precedes the mineral-processing of the aggregates used in construction nowadays. It includes, besides the informative facts about the rock clearing in open-pits using the blasting technique, the application of this procedure in a open-pit mine which is located in Santa Catarina, Brazil, and a short review of mining costs.
