The growth of crime and violence, especially homicides in urban areas, has been a cause for concern and has provoked a sense of fear in society. In recent years, Brazil has entered the most violent group of society in the world, and today the country has very high rates of urban violence. Much is discussed about the problems of crimes and violence in Brazil and some experts point out the most varied causes for the problem, however, all agree that the main reason is the socioeconomic inequality due to the poor distribution of income, which is preponderant to the growth of violence in society. Unplanned population growth combined with the concentration of poverty are also factors that contribute to the growth of crime and violence, where there is no basic urban structure, such as housing, drinking water, sanitation and transportation. In addition, public policies did not follow the emergence of new demands. The objective of this work is to analyze the increasing increase in homicide rates in the Municipality of Praia Grande in the year 2016, and to evaluate if it can face the problem with preventive measures.
