Resumo: The main objective of endodontic therapy is the disinfection of the root canal system through chemical-mechanical preparation and the three-dimensional sealing of these empty spaces, using gutta-percha and a cement that has adequate biological and physico-chemical properties, in order to avoid colonization or bacterial recolonization and stimulate apical repair and periapical. There is a diversity of cements for endodontic purposes on the market, however, most of these still have limitations in their properties. Considering that bioceramic cements have been very used in endodontics, the aim of this research was to review the literature and discourse about the biological and physical-chemical properties of these cements in endodontic therapy. A literature review was performed using the descriptive research, aiming to take depth in the knowledge about the properties of bioceramic cements in endodontics, coming from a bibliographic review by several authors in the field. It was used as a method of research, scientific articles published in the period from 1993 to 2019, obtained from electronic databases: PUBMED and SCIELO. The study, qualitative analysis of scientific articles to obtain detailed information on the biological and physical-chemical properties of bioceramic cements. The Inclusion criteria were: original research articles and literature revisions related to the chosen theme. According to this literature review, it was concluded that bioceramic cements are promising materials. Nowadays it is a reality in Endodontics, since they have many advantages over conventional filling cements. Regarding biological aspects, bioceramics are biocompatible, bioactive and antimicrobial effect, fundamental factors in the recovery of pulp and periodontal tissues. Have physico-chemical properties suitable for root canal filling cement as adhesion, radiopacity, flow, easy application, good sealing ability marginal and less setting time.
