Bruxism is an activity of the muscles of mastication, characterized by tightening, touching, hitting or grinding the teeth, or keeping the jaw in the same position or moving it vigorously. Bruxism originates in the Central Nervous System and can occur in two situations, during wakefulness (waking bruxism) or during sleep (sleep bruxism). The etiology of bruxism is complex and controversial, with multiple associated risk factors. Signs of Bruxism can be found in the dental element or symptoms linked to the Stomatognathic System, in the muscles, temporomandibular joints and teeth. The control of Sleep Bruxism may include behavioral therapy, pharmacology, Botulinum Toxin Injection (BTX), Electrotherapy, Acupuncture and Interocclusal Devices, the latter being the most used. However interocclusal devices performed in laboratories with thermo-polymerizable acrylic are the most common and safest. This outsourcing of the board increases the cost and hampers its use in public health services. A less costly alternative was suggested by Okeson, making a direct plate, without the need for the molding of the antagonist arch and the laboratory stage. This plate is made by attaching an acetate sheet with the self-curing acrylic. This work aimed to alter this technique, resulting in a greater rigidity of this device, reducing the risk of muscular overload without changing its costs and benefits to the individual. In addition to reducing the negative consequences of BS and increasing the quality of life of the patient, the manufacture of the Modified Mixed Stabilizer Plate can reduce repetitive treatments in dental care. Future studies on this new modality of stabilizing plaque can provide more precise data and information on the relationships studied, especially the implementation of this procedure in public health.
