Resumo: Undoubtedly, the continuous technological advance as well as the search for efficiency and greater safety has led the aeronautical industry to look for an increasingly qualified worker. In this scenario, the general objective of this work is to understand the factors that demonstrate the need for professionals increasingly qualified to work in the air transport market in Brazil and in the world. The specific objectives were to verify the concept of professional qualification, as well as professional qualification in Brazil; describe the historical process of aviation in the country; analyze the importance of training and qualification of the airline industry professional; check the requirements for the airline pilot training; inquire about the shortage of pilots; the future projection of the number of professionals needed to meet the demand in airline industry as well as the regions that most stand out. The methodology used for this work elaboration was through bibliographical research, of exploratory nature, based on documentary procedure with qualitative approach. As a result of the study it was possible to verify that the economy of the aviation market can be compromised if there are not enough qualified professionals to supply the market demand. There has been a projection for the next 20 years indicating the need for 2 million new staff members divided into 617,000 pilots, 679,000 aircraft maintenance mechanics and 814,000 flight attendants, as the Asia-Pacific region will become the largest power at air transportation in the world. The finding that the increasing demand of aeronautical industry is not accompanied by the new professionals formation for the market is very worrisome, due to factors such as the drastic increase of flight hours required for pilot join in the companies, from 250 to 1,500, the few airplanes found in schools and the high cost to graduate.
