Resumo: Since 1980 Brazil experiences a significant deindustrialization process in which modern sectors have given space to the production of goods with less aggregated value. By that time, the agricultural production starts an expansion process that takes Brazil from an importer position to the podium of world exportation. The agricultural role model production adopted in the country is based on the massive consumption of pesticides, among others, and glyphosate is the active ingredient most used in national agriculture following the world standards. Disclosed data by the Health Ministry indicate contamination by glyphosate in the public water supply system as the conventional treatment methods are not efficient on its removal, making new processes of treatment such as the non-thermal plasma become an alternative. In order to verify the non-thermal plasma efficiency as an alternative of glyphosate degradation in water, water solutions containing glyphosate concentrations of 0,00 g/L , 3,60 g/L ; 5,41 g/L and 7,20 g/L were exposed to a discharge of non-thermal plasma for 15, 30, and 45 minutes. Through ecotoxicological tests using Eisenia fetida and their escape behavior, a comparison of the behavior of the organisms was made between contaminated soils with solutions exposed to the discharge and contaminated soils with solutions not exposed to the discharge. There was a decrease in the avoidance percentage in the contaminated soils with non-exposed solutions and the contaminated soils exposed to the non-thermal plasma treatment. In addition, when compared to the samples that were not exposed to the discharge, it was noticed the increase of nitrite and nitrate concentration, electric conductivity, and temperature, besides the decrease of the potential of hydrogen of all samples. Therefore, considering the electrical conductivity increase and the nitrate and nitrite concentrations, which demonstrate the split of the main molecule into smaller composts and before the decrease of the avoidance percentage, it is deduced that the non-thermal plasma is an efficient method to degrade glyphosate in the public water supply.
