Resumo: GDP, the Unemployment Rate and per Capita Income are considered as important indicators of a country's socioeconomic growth. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is understood to be the wealth that a country has produced over a given period of time. The Unemployment Rate can be defined as how much of the labor available in the labor market is no longer used, while Income shows how wealth is being distributed to the working population. The present study aimed to evaluate the behavior of these macroeconomic variables during the period of the FHC and Lula governments, identifying the existence or not of a correlation between them and how they could help to recognize the transition from one economic cycle to the other. The collected data were obtained through the research of official government websites (IBGE, IPEA, IBRE) and allocated to graphs with variations in percentage form, in relation to the previous year. The year 1995 was defined as zero year for all charts. After graphical analysis and interpretation of the results it was possible to conclude that although in some situations the oscillations presented by the variables obey a certain pattern of movement, there is no correlation between them, these individual movements being driven by conjunctural factors and to some extent influenced by the public policies adopted. It was also observed that the study of the three variables was not enough to identify the change of economic cycles.
