Resumo: The main objective of this monograph is to analyze the construction of the ordinary man in national cinema and how he can be immortalized through a documentary film. Within these conceptions, this research obtained as a way to go through the history of ordinary man in modern and contemporary Brazilian documentary, citing and analyzing some productions from these periods; passing through the role of the documentary filmmaker and his responsibilities as a bridge between history and the public; also looking for the concepts of memory and death to understand how the documentary relates to these points
