The present academic assignment deals with the analysis and considerations about the main Brazilian criminal factions, denominated Comando Vermelho (CV) e Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), as well as aims to clarify how the formation of these criminal organizations and their activities were developed, by exploratory, doctrinal and articles related to the subject under study. It also aims to address the organizational structure of these factions, the elements that characterize them and their actions inside and outside the Brazilian prison system. This study also gives a brief analysis of the origins of criminal organizations in the world and the existence of other relevant factions existing in the national territory. The fundamental sources of financial profit of factions will be pointed, as well the related crimes committed by organized crime. It is corroborated that the choice of the theme seeks to demonstrate the need of more effective measures against organized crime in Brazil. The fundamental proposal brought by the study is to present the economic, warlike and organizational power of the largest and most powerful factions in the country. In the course of the study, the mechanisms and legislative evolution offered by the State in confronting organized crime will be highlighted.
