Resumo: With the ever-increasing need for a power supply free of faults and other disturbances in the most varied areas, the use of nobreaks has been gaining ground. this work was done with the objective of becoming a tutorial of the use of uninterrupted power sources aiming at improving the efficiency and reliability of the system. a study was carried out showing: the applications of nobreaks in several areas, the main factors determining the quality of the equipment, a sequence of instructions for the tests carried out in factories according to IEC 62040-3 (1999) and instructions for the correct dimensioning of the Nobreak and battery bank, plus a collection of information on how to improve battery life with an emphasis on lead-acid batteries. The methodology used was a sequence of studies and research related to: areas of action seeking knowledge, how and where uninterruptible power supplies are used and for which purpose, what are the instructions of the standards for testing and designing UPS, what procedures to improve the life of the batteries, among others. As a result of our research we conclude that the most relevant characteristics for the best efficiency and reliability of a UPS are obtained by tests in the two parts that compose the system, the nobreak and the bank of batteries, each test is demonstrated in the specification chapter together with a brief explanation as to why these characteristics are relevant. As a tutorial instruction, it was also demonstrated how the Nobreak and battery bank dimensions are made in Chapters 4 and 5, reinforcing the aspects of efficiency and reliability for the correct use of the equipment involved.

Este trabalho foi elaborado com o objetivo de ser um tutorial para utilização em fontes de energia ininterrupta, visando melhorar a eficiência e confiabilidade do sistema. Foi realizado um estudo demonstrando: as aplicações de nobreaks em diversas áreas, os principais fatores que determinam a qualidade do equipamento, uma sequência de instruções quanto a ensaios realizados em fábricas, de acordo com a norma IEC 6240-3 (1999), e instruções para o correto dimensionamento do Nobreak e do banco de baterias, além de uma coletânea de informações sobre como melhorar a vida útil das baterias com ênfase nas baterias de chumbo-ácido. A metodologia utilizada foi uma sequência de estudos e pesquisas relativos em: áreas de atuação, buscando conhecimentos de como e onde fontes de energia ininterrupta são utilizadas e seu objetivo. Quais as instruções das normas para ensaios e dimensionamento de UPS e quais os procedimentos para melhorar a vida útil das baterias, entre outros. Como resultado da nossa pesquisa, concluímos que as características mais relevantes para a melhor eficiência e confiabilidade de uma UPS são obtidas por ensaios nas duas partes que compõem o sistema: o nobreak e o banco de baterias. Cada ensaio é demonstrado no capítulo de especificação, junto de uma breve explicação de porque essas características são relevantes.
