Glifosato: um enfoque sobre a exposição ocupacional

Resumo: | As the world leader in the consumption of agrochemicals, Brazil has about 15.2 million rural workers exposed to these substances. So high levels of human and environmental contamination have been found in agricultural regions in Brazil. The average consumption of agrochemicals has been increasing in relation to the planted area. This increase is related to several factors, such as the expansion of transgenic soybean planting, which increases the consumption of glyphosate, a non-selective herbicide, classified by the WHO as non-toxic. However, over the years, several studies have demonstrated the potential for poisoning by chronic exposure: disruptive potential of the human endocrine system, genotoxic, liver problems, gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, celiac disease, and gluten intolerance. In spite of all the scientific evidence developed in recent years regarding the risk of exposure to glyphosate, Brazilian legislation does not establish limits of exposure to the substance, nor are biological indicators of exposure established, making it difficult to establish a causal link between diseases and exposure to glyphosate. This work proposes to present a review of the literature on the use of glyphosate in Brazil with a focus on occupational exposure to this herbicide. As results, it was observed that crop characteristics, which include extensive land use, high mechanization index and intensive use of agrochemicals, end up determining an amplified environmental exposure scenario, in which the risks related to the use of these chemical agents are extrapolated beyond planting. |

De forma que elevados níveis de contaminação humana e ambiental têm sido encontrados em regiões agríco¬las no Brasil. O consumo médio de agrotóxicos vem aumentando em relação à área plantada. Este aumento está relacionado a vários fatores, como a expansão do plantio da soja transgênica, que amplia o consumo de glifosato, um herbicida não-seletivo, classificado pela OMS como pouco tóxico. Porém ao longo dos anos, diversos estudos têm evidenciado seu potencial de intoxicações por exposição crônica: potencial disruptor do sistema endócrino humano, genotóxico, de problemas no fígado, desordens gastrointestinais, obesidade, diabetes, doenças cardíacas, depressão, autismo, infertilidade, câncer, mal de Alzheimer, mal de Parkinson, doença celíaca, e intolerância ao glúten. Apesar de toda a evidência científica desenvolvida nos últimos anos a respeito do risco da exposição ao glifosato, a legislação brasileira não prevê limites de exposição à substância, nem tampouco, estão estabelecidos indicadores biológicos de exposição, dificultando o estabelecimento de nexo causal entre as doenças e a exposição ao glifosato. Este trabalho propôs-se a apresentar uma revisão da literatura sobre a utilização do glifosato no Brasil com enfoque na exposição ocupacional a este herbicida.
