This work aims to demonstrate the importance of the planning, budget and control in residentials civil works of small size, searching to confront the lack of planning culture in small civil works and evidence the cost-benefit relationship of this pratice. To achieve this goal, it was made a comparation between a proposal of financing through the Caixa Econômica Federal for a residential work of 49,25m² and a planning and budget prepared by the authors. Throught this comparation it was possible to demonstrate that a more detailed planning and budget are capable of achieve a bigger precision and, also, a bigger economy, since with the budget more specified it was possible to predict an economy of about R$ 5.000,00. Therefore, it was concluded that the cost-benefit relationship of planning a small size work is excellent, because it is possible to run with easily accessible tools and, practically, zero cost, with the benefit of being able to bring an economy of time and money.
