A relação entre traumatismo dentário e equilíbrio ortostático em crianças aos 7/8 anos: um estudo de caso-controle de base populacional

Introduction: Dental trauma (TD) in children and adolescents has been the subject of many studies. Prevalences showed that approximately 25% of the young had some TD experience. The occurrence of falls has been shown to be associated with risk behaviors. Postural balance depends on the integration of regulatory systems and motor responses produce body repositioning to maintain balance. Objective: To know the relation between the variation of the orthostatic balance and the occurrence of TDs in schoolchildren. Methods: The population-based case-control study involving 258 seven- to eight-year-old schoolchildren born and residing in Palhoça / SC. Stabilometric measures of schoolchildren were compared with prevalence of TDs collected in reports made by mothers or main caregivers. Multiple analysis was performed, paired by sex and socioeconomic status, adjusting the analysis models. Results: The group presented a chance of 4.37 (95% CI 1.19, 16.04) (p = 0.026) times to have a lower balance in the velocity measurement of the anteroposterior (AP) trajectory of the orthostatic center of (COP), children are with eyes closed. They presented 3.06 (95% CI 1.04, 9.02) (p = 0.043) times having a lower balance in the measure of deviation of the LL trajectory of the COP and of 4.00 (95% CI 1.09, 14, 74) (p = 0.037), children with eyes open and with foam. Conclusion: Children with TDs in their previous life showed worse orthostatic balance in the AP trajectory velocity, width and LL deviation of the COP, when compared to children without occurrences of TDs KEY WORDS- Tooth Injuries, Children’s Health, Balance Control.
