The present paper deals with the study of the types of pensions existing in the General Social Security System (RGPS) and the main characteristics of each one, conceptualizing them according to existing social security legislation and existing doctrines. The main objective of this research is to bring to the attention of all, whether academics, employees or pensioners, the peculiarities that exist in each type of retirement of the General Social Security System. In order to delineate the process of the methodological path, the deductive method with the use of research in the bibliographic mode is used as the best approach to the subject, using doctrines, scientific articles in paper sources and electronic means, as well as the legislation Brazilian As for the level of research, it was adopted the exploratory one, for providing greater intimacy of the author with the object of study. The research begins with the study of the emergence of the first protective laws and the National Institute of Social Security, specific principles of social security, types of insured persons, dependents, forms of membership, maintenance and loss of insured status, required grace and benefit amount. Retirement due to disability, age, contribution and special time are treated in the present study. There is also a focus on the social function that these benefits provide. Based on the study carried out, it is concluded that there are currently several forms of retirement that can be sought by the insured person affiliated to the General Social Security System, and most of the insured persons are unaware of the existence of some of these types of pensions, right. In this scenario, this research gains relevance, since it helps and guides policyholders and all citizens to pay attention to what types of retirement they may require, taking into account that the changes introduced by PEC 287/2016 (Pension Reform) can Significantly change the rules of granting the retirement benefits dealt with here, causing huge loss there are many policyholders.
