Resumo: This paper provides a link between the actions of the Brazilian State and the main recommendations of the final document produced by the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (RIO + 20) entitled "The Future We Want", with emphasis on the energy theme. Analyzes the ways the Brazilian government's performance through its programs involving energy and energy sustentabildade exemplifies up actions and stands out the relationship of the main energy programs with the commitments after the RIO + 20. The history of major environmental conferences and the evolution of the sustainable development will be presented globally from the 1960s until 2012. This context leads us to a turning point in the international arena that allows the relativization of the energy subject within the environmental area. Similarly, it allows the visualization of the results of major international environmental conferences, and its relevance in the pursuit of sustainable development in its three pillars: social, economic and sustainable.

Analisa-se as formas de atuação do Governo brasileiro através de seus programas envolvendo energia e sustentabildade energética, exemplifica-se as ações e destaca-se a relação dos principais programas de energia com os compromissos assumidos após a RIO+20. Será apresentado o histórico das principais conferências ambientais e a evolução do tema desenvolvimento sustentável globalmente à partir da década de 1960 até 2012. Esse contexto nos leva à um ponto de inflexão no cenário internacional que permite relativisar o tema energia dentro da temática ambiental.
