Resumo: The growing demand in the construction sector has caused new technologies to be sought in order to meet the different works, adapting to all social classes in Brazil. One of the most important steps for the country's development was the right to decent housing for all citizens, established in the Federal Constitution of 1988. This work analyzed the most employed construction systems in popular housing projects in Brazil, with a structural masonry that has been widely diffused in these constructions, since this type of system uses self-supporting concrete blocks or ceramic, and if well designed, can avoid many errors and wastes during the work. Through a bibliographic review, it was concluded that the structural masonry system presents constructive and financial advantages, which stand out from the other systems for economy, speed of execution and practicality, and in this way, it meets the technical and economic requirements stipulated by the Government That governs the housing program.

Um dos passos mais importantes para o desenvolvimento do país foi o direito à moradia digna a todos os cidadãos, estabelecida na Constituição Federal de 1988. Este trabalho analisou os sistemas construtivos mais empregados nas obras de habitação popular no Brasil, com enfoque principal no sistema de alvenaria estrutural que vem sendo difundido amplamente nestas construções, pois este tipo de sistema utiliza blocos de concreto ou cerâmicos autoportantes, e se for bem projetado, pode evitar muitos erros e desperdícios durante a obra.
