In light of sustainability, the use of solar energy transformed into electrical energy, through photovoltaic panels installed on the roofs of buildings and connected, or not, to the electrical distribution network has become commonplace in the scope of clean and sustainable electrical energy production. For being, the sun, a natural and renewable source of energy, studies show the importance of the subject, since there is great incidence of irradiation in Brazil. In this context, this study aims to verify the economic and financial viability, after the simulation of the installation of photovoltaic panels, in two university blocks, Cettal and Centec, of the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL) on the campus of the city Tubarão SC. An exploratory study was performed out to obtain the time of financial return of this investment, through methods such as simple and discounted Payback, Net Present Value, Minimum Attractiveness Rate and Internal Rate of Return. Providing ensures for the periods of 10 years referring to the guarantee of photovoltaic modules and 25 years referring to the guarantee of the loss of efficiency. After analyzing the true data and calculating the variables was possible to analyze the viability and time of return of the invested capital in the implementation of the proposed project.
