USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN DENTAL EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC LOCKDOWN

Resumo: | Dental courses used to be mainly designed by traditional learning previously from the COVID-19 pandemic. To face in-person closure, one of the biggest challenges was adapt the dental course design to an online model, which guarantees the development of skills needed by future professionals. In this context, this paper aimed to present a report about the usage of information and communication technologies by a public university in XXX from April to December 2020. Procedures about the methodology applied and reflections about the implementation of Moodle and Whereby were described. A checklist for monitoring undergraduate units showed that before the pandemic the Moodle system was little used in the dental course. However, during the pandemic, the number of units that started using the platform rose from 09 to 32 (64%). Among the possibilities offered, some teachers used the Moodle platform only as a repository. Others also used tools available on Moodle such as forums, questionnaires, external links, and files. Therefore, the results from the checklist showed that the platforms worked positively during online learning in dental faculty. However, some policies and training remain necessary to ensure better educational outcomes. |

However, some policies and training remain necessary to ensure better educational outcomes.Los cursos de odontología que se impartían principalmente en persona enfrentaron muchos desafíos con el aislamiento impuesto por la pandemia de Covid-19. Uno de estos retos fue adecuar el diseño del curso a un modelo virtual que garantizara el desarrollo de las habilidades necesarias para los futuros profesionales. En este contexto, el objetivo de este artículo fue presentar un informe de experiencia sobre el uso de tecnologías de la información y la comunicación por una institución pública de educación superior realizada de abril a diciembre de 2020. Se describen los procedimientos metodológicos y el uso de herramientas Moodle. adoptado. También se incluyen reflexiones sobre los recursos utilizados. La experiencia se informa sobre la base de los resultados de una lista de verificación para el seguimiento de las disciplinas de pregrado. Los resultados muestran que antes de la pandemia el sistema Moodle se usaba poco en la universidad y durante la pandemia el número de sujetos que comenzaron a usar el sistema aumentó en un 64%. Entre las posibilidades ofrecidas, algunos profesores utilizaron la plataforma Moodle solo como repositorio de materiales. Otros, además de poner a disposición lecciones en video, también utilizaron herramientas disponibles en el entorno como foros, cuestionarios, enlaces externos y archivos. A través de las mediciones realizadas, se observó que las plataformas funcionaron positivamente durante la enseñanza a distancia en Odontología en el XX. Os cursos de Odontologia que prioritariamente eram ministrados de forma presencial enfrentaram muitos desafios com o isolamento imposto pela pandemia do Covid-19. Um desses desafios foi adaptar o desenho do curso para um modelo virtual que garantisse o desenvolvimento das competências necessárias aos futuros profissionais. Nesse contexto, o objetivo desse artigo foi apresentar um relato de experiência sobre o uso das tecnologias de informação e comunicação por uma instituição pública de ensino superior realizada no período de abril a dezembro de 2020. São descritos os procedimentos metodológicos e a utilização das ferramentas Moodle e Whereby adotadas. Também constam as reflexões sobre os recursos utilizados. A experiência é relatada a partir dos resultados de um checklist para monitoramento das disciplinas de graduação. Os resultados mostram que previamente a pandemia o sistema Moodle era pouco usado na faculdade e durante a pandemia o número de disciplinas que passaram a usar o sistema aumentou 64%. Dentre as possibilidades oferecidas, alguns professores utilizaram a plataforma Moodle apenas como repositório de materiais. Outros, além de disponibilizarem as vídeo-aulas também utilizaram ferramentas disponíveis no ambiente como fóruns, questionários, links externos e arquivos.
