Resumo: | The knowledge which has been acquired and accumulated since the beginning of dentistry has made possible an important change related to the ways of dealing with diseases that attack the oral tissues. The aim of this work is to trace a panorama and delineate the trends of the dental work market, as well as to point out ways for the adequacy of professional formation to the current market situation. The dental labor force existing in the country is the result of a developing process of the profession, which is in constant transformation, always leading to the formation of more qualified professionals. A humanized educative practice in health places man as the center of the citizenship construction process, committed to and integrated with the social and epidemiological reality, and the social and health policies, allowing for a transforming and directed professional formation. The commitment to carry through a self-analysis of the education given to each student is the responsibility of every higher education institution. These institutions must analyze what they want, why they want it and who shall benefit from dental education, which must be democratic, not produce differences, and form creative, critical and diligent citizens to work for society, and not for the market. |
