Teaching of integrated clinic: new guidelines and old taboos

Resumo: Since 2002, Brazilian National Curricular Guidelines for undergraduate dentistry courses propound that the theoretical/practical content of some integrated clinic subjects with a growing level of complexity be made available throughout the duration of the course. Based on this, it is indispensable to rethink deeply and pedagogically about the real aims of subject integration, both interdisciplinarily and transdisciplinarily. This article addresses the characteristics inherent to teaching and practicing the discipline of integrated clinic, based on comments about clinical sequences of interdisciplinary dentistry treatments and a suggested clinical planning routine and clinical procedures open to becoming transdisciplinary. It also discusses some teaching skill characteristics for this “new way of teaching” seeking to broaden the present transition process experienced by dentistry courses from a traditional to an integral curriculum.

Por isso, é preciso que se repense com real profundidade no sentido pedagógico sobre os objetivos de integração de conteúdos, interdisciplinaridade e transdisciplinaridade.
