Resumo: In the final years of the 1940s, Rio de Janeiro saw the emergence of a new body practice under the influence of American cinema and culture. Water ballet, the forerunner of what we now know as artistic swimming, figured in the pools of the Federal District, between 1947 and 1949, in social and charitable events with presentations organized around activities inside the water, but also outside it, with emphasis on fashion shows, especially swimwear. The flagship of these events, the maillot appears between sportswear and leisure clothing, composing the feminine world of the time with its ideals of beauty, grace, harmony, and also sensuality.

O ballet aquático, precursor do que hoje conhecemos como nado artístico, figurou nas piscinas da capital federal, entre os anos 1947 e 1949, em eventos sociais e beneficentes com apresentações organizadas em torno das atividades dentro d’água, mas também fora dela, com destaque para os desfiles de moda, notadamente de roupa de banho.
