Resumo: | Although concern about the environmental issues has gained prominence in the field of operations management in recent years, a research gap still exists in companies operating in Brazil. In order to contribute to this area, this research aims to explain and understand the main stimulus for the adoption of ecodesign in Brazil. To this end, a survey was carried out in 79 firms belonging to innovative sectors and involved in new product development activities. Among the main results, it was observed that compliance with legal requirements and new business opportunities stood out as the main stimulus for the adoption of ecodesign. The possibility of using ecodesign as an element of cost reduction was also a stimulus considered relevant by companies. On the other hand, the stimulus “benefit to the environment” was considered the least attractive. |

On the other hand, the stimulus “benefit to the environment” was considered the least attractive.
