Development of entrepreneurship in Brazil based on indicators of the global entrepreneurship monitor (GEM)

Resumo: | Entrepreneurship is very important in a society due to its influence with the growth and development of a country. The importance of studying and knowing the entrepreneurial activity and the entrepreneur's profile contributes positively to identify estimates of this activity and to clarify the future of this process. In this sense, this article presents the evolution of entrepreneurship in Brazil over the past 13 years, using for the study secondary data obtained from the GEM and IBGE researches, in which the search was conducted in documentary basis from 2001 to 2013. The results present a descriptive analysis of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor entrepreneurship indicators (GEM) concerning to the new entrepreneur rate and the rate of nascent entrepreneurs, growth of the Brazilian GDP related to entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship rate according to the entrepreneur stages (initial and established), initial entrepreneurs according to their motivation (by chance and necessity), by gender entrepreneurs, age, level of education. It was also carried out statistical analysis where the trend of the variables over time was verified by simple linear regression at the significance level of 5%. The study concludes that Brazil tends to present significant growth towards entrepreneurship, an advancement of the female contribution to the economy, increase of entrepreneurs because of more opportunities and stability in the existing businesses. |

A importância de estudar e conhecer a atividade empreendedora, bem como o perfil do empreendedor, contribui positivamente para identificar as estimativas desta atividade e permitindo elucidar o futuro deste processo. Neste sentido, o presente artigo apresenta a evolução do empreendedorismo, no Brasil, nos últimos 13 anos, utilizando para o estudo dados secundários obtidos pelas pesquisas do GEM e IBGE, cuja busca foi realizada em base documental desde o ano de 2001 até 2013. Os resultados apresentam uma análise descritiva dos indicadores de empreendedorismo do Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) quanto à taxa de empreendedores novos e taxa de empreendedores nascentes, evolução do PIB brasileiro relacionado ao empreendedorismo, taxa de empreendedorismo segundo os estágios do empreendedor (inicial e estabelecido), empreendedores iniciais segundo sua motivação (por oportunidade e por necessidade), empreendedores segundo gênero, faixa etária e grau de escolaridade. Foram ainda realizadas analises estatísticas em que a tendência das variáveis ao longo do tempo foi verificada por meio de regressão linear simples, considerando o nível de significância de 5%.
