Resumo: The aim of this study was to collect scientific data about failures in veneers. The review was conducted through a search of original articles on that subject in journals listed in Pubmed, from 1990 to 2010. The selected articles were primarily related to: event planning, material selection, types and preparation techniques, surface treatment of tooth /restoration, luting and longevity of the procedure. The most critical stage in the technique of laminate veneers is luting. The incorrect indication of the case for treatment and the preparation design are also cited as the main targets of failures. The technique of laminate veneers is a sensitive technique. However, the literature shows that when footsteps are followed, it has a high success rate.

A revisão foi realizada através de busca de artigos originais sobre o referido assunto em periódicos listados na fonte Pubmed, desde 1990 até 2010. Foram selecionados artigos relacionados principalmente a: planejamento do caso, seleção de materiais, tipos e técnicas de preparo, tratamento das superfícies dente/restauração, cimentação e longevidade do procedimento. A fase mais crítica na técnica de facetas é a cimentação. A incorreta indicação do caso para o tratamento e o tipo de preparo utilizado também são apontados como principais alvos de falhas.
