Resumo: The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of dental caries and fluorosis in schoolchildren of Paracambi, RJ. The sample was composed by 263 12-year-old schoolchildren and it was utilized the DMFT and Dean index for evaluation of caries and fluorosis, respectively. It was verified that the DMFT was 3.2 and the decayed component was the most frequently observed. The prevalence of dental fluorosis was 40.6% and the very mild degree was the most prevalent (31.2%). It was concluded that caries prevalence in Paracambi can be considered moderate, although bellow the established goals of WHO for the year of 2000, while the prevalence of fluorosis was high, although without aesthetic impact on the population.
