Drug dependence in women and domestic violence

Resumo: | Psychoactive substance use among women is known to have predisposing factors, maintenance factors, and consequences that are different from those applicable to men. Domestic violence and intimate partner violence, in addition to being a serious problem, with a high incidence in the female population, represents one of the main factors associated with chemical dependence in women. A literature review was conducted to assess the current national and international scenarios of the impacts of domestic violence among female drug users. The study revealed an urgent need for programs designed to prevent domestic violence,Psychoactive substance use among women is known to have predisposing factors, maintenance factors, and consequences that are different from those applicable to men. In conclusion, history of domestic violence should be investigated in the assessment and treatment of substance-dependentwomen; violence interruption and protection of women should be treatment plan priorities. |

A violência doméstica entre parceiros íntimos, além de ser um problema grave e com alta incidência entre a população feminina, representa um dos principais fatores associados à dependência química na mulher. A partir de revisão de literatura, foi verificado o cenário nacional e internacional atual dos impactos da violência doméstica entre mulheres usuárias de drogas. Verificouse a urgência de programas de prevenção à violência doméstica e de atenção psicossocial e especializada às crianças e mulheres que sofreram esse tipo de violência, tendo em vista prevenir o uso abusivo de substâncias como forma desadaptativa de manejar o sofrimento decorrente da violência.
