Resumo: It is clear the association between religiosity and spirituality (R/S) and physical and mental health and there is a growing recognition by clinical and scientific entities of the need to approach R/S in practice, especially in the psychotherapeutic context. Systematic reviews have shown the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) adapted to different religions. However, there are no guidelines that address spiritism, the third religion in Brazil and which has an influence on Brazilian society as its beliefs and practices are often adopted by people from other religious affiliations. Thus, the present study intends to cover two important gaps in the literature: the dissociation that exists between the body of evidence and clinical practice, and the lack of studies that address spiritism. Hence, practical descriptions of CBT techniques adapted to spiritism are presented, emphasizing the need for an ethical and patient-centered intervention.
