Resumo: Mental health, formerly focused on the psychiatric pathology, has as main goal of study the biopsychosocial context in which the patient lives. Also, more recently, there has been a greater interest in the investigation of the possible implications of the gender in mental health. Regarding the women’s mind, it’s crucial that health carers pay attention to the mental disorders related to the reproductive cycle, and its repercussions over the patients and those near her. Several issues regarding women´s mental health remain open to discussion and studies. In this article a brief introduction is made on its historical facts, current concepts and future perspectives

Além disso, mais recentemente, tem surgido maior interesse na investigação das possíveis diferenças entre gêneros. Sobre a mente feminina, é imprescindível que os profissionais da saúde tenham a atenção e o conhecimento necessários sobre os transtornos psíquicos associados ao ciclo reprodutivo, devido tamanha repercussão que causam não somente à paciente. Diversas questões ainda estão em aberto no que se refere a um tema tão amplo quanto à saúde mental da mulher.
