The media as a “place of memory”: the preservation of the image of political hero in the press: a continuum between past and present

Resumo: | This article analyzes how the image of hero and martyr of Brazilian democracy, attributed to former president Tancredo Neves by the media in the early 1980s, remains alive nowadays in the collective memory to a large extent becouse of its reproduction in the large vehicles of electronic press, taken as new "places of memory", according to the perspective of Pierre Nora and Jacques Le Goff. It is observed as temporal clipping of the analysis the 30th anniversary of its election to the Presidency of the Republic and its tragic death, shortly thereafter. The empirical corpus is composed of 33 publications of the UOL Portal, Veja online magazine and Folha de Sao Paulo online. It is observed that, despite a time lapse of three decades, the image of the political hero still survives strongly in the present reworked in media "places of memory" and contribute to preserve and disseminate versions of past in the collective imaginary. |

O corpus empírico é composto por 33 publicações do Portal UOL, revista Veja online e Folha de São Paulo online. Observa-se como recorte temporal a efeméride do aniversário de 30 anos de sua eleição para a Presidência e sua trágica morte, pouco depois.
