"Sem Migué" in the elections: A collaborative fact-checking experience in São Luís/MA

Resumo: The present paper brings early results of an experiment carried out during the 2020 local elections in São Luís/MA. The aim was to investigate whether and how a collaborative and decentralized fact-checking model could help the participants deal with disinformation. For this, a fact-checking platform called “Sem Migué” was developed as a minimum viable product, which was tested with the participation of 24 volunteers, including non-journalists. The data analyzed was collected from the website’s metrics, questionnaires answered by the volunteers and participant observation. The results will guide the development of a new version of the model, which might be tested in new applications of the project.

Nele, buscamos investigar se – e de que forma – um modelo colaborativo e descentralizado de checagem de fatos ajuda os participantes a lidar com o fenômeno da desinformação. Para isso, idealizamos uma plataforma de fact-checking intitulada “Sem Migué” e testamos um mínimo produto viável com a participação de 24 voluntários, incluindo não jornalistas.
