The Brazilian Federal Supreme Court didn’t oppose to the military coup in 1964. It’s performance during the dictatorship was marked by a mixture of connivance and episodes of confrontation, through granting of habeas corpus to political prisoners. The journalist Felipe Recondo presents in his book a court that had different attributions from those of today. A closed institution, formed by reserved justices, which attracted little public attention. A scenario opposite to the current one, in which the Supreme Court is the target of protests, threats, it’s sessions are broadcasted and the justices are interviewed and make comments at social networks. However, the book reveals some challenges that still remain even after re-democratization, such as the constant attempts of the Executive Power to interfere.
