Resumo: This paper seeks to describe the role of economic models and illustrate the intersections of this discussion with the role of narratives and metaphors in economic science. The discipline of economics has an influence on the field of study in the sense that it provides not only an explanation of how things work, but also gives individuals ways of seeing the relationships and structures that exist in reality. Modeling is the dominant style of reasoning from which economists describe and observe the world. Narratives are a specific type of story that order and connect elements to make sense of their relationships. Metaphors, in turn, are devices that enable certain ways of seeing things. Thus, there is a link between these elements whose exploration allows conclusions to be drawn about the implications and ethical commitments of economic science in relation to its methodological procedures.
