Resumo: Frédéric Mauro (1921-2001), French economic historian is considered a follower and spreader of the Annales school in Brazil. The article examines Frédéric Mauro's conception of economic history, placing it in dialogue with the French historiographical school, especially with Fernand Braudel. To this end, we analyse the critical reception of his doctoral thesis, Le Portugal et l'Atlantique au XVIIième sciècle: étude économique, published in 1960. Then, we present his conception of economic history, highlighting the dialogue he proposes between history and economic theory. After discussing these elements, we make a brief comparison between his conception of economic history and that of Fernand Braudel.

Em seguida, apresentamos sua concepção de história econômica, destacando o diálogo que propõe entre a História e a teoria econômica.
