Regional insertion in times of intolerance: immigration, xenofobia and the challenges to South Africa post-apartheid

Resumo: This article is going to analyze the interaction between African immigration toward South Africa and the process of insertion of this country in the African continent during the administrations Mandela, Mbeki, Zuma and Ramaphosa. Based on a literature review and analysis of official documents, we will defend the hypothesis that there is a detachment between the intention of Pretoria to be more active in Africa and the realization, in fact, ofsuch objective, since the process regional integration is limited by the difficulty in breaking the waves of intolerance towards immigrants.
